Is the engine a V-6, a 2.8 liter, or a 4.3 liter?
1983 Camaro & Firebird, 1984-Up All, need first 4 digits (numbers and letters) from ID Tag. A paper tag may also be present on the driver side top of the bell.

1993-Up SHOULD be the electronic 4L60E. If it is a 4L60E it should have a large round electrical connector on right (passenger) side and should not have a T.V. cable!! SEE 4L60E SECTION BELOW!!
Tail Housings:
Cars (Except Firebird/Trans Am & Camaro) have crossmember holes. Does the mount fasten to the tail or the case? (See Picture)
Firebirds and Camaros use three holes for the end brace.
Corvettes: Must do the customer's unit!
2WD and 4X4 Trucks and Vans
To properly identify your transmission the following information is needed:
Year Make Model Engine Size
The VIN 8th digit is the "Engine ID" and the 10th digit is the "Year"
Is the engine a V-6, a 2.8 liter, or a 4.3 liter?
1985-Up 4.3L (2wd) & All V-8's 1986-87 Gas & 1987-Up Diesels, need first 4 digits (numbers and letters) from ID Tag. A paper tag may also be present on the driver side top of the bell. (See Pictures - 1 2 3)
If tag is not available, you must drop the pan and get the part number off the solenoid. (See Pictures - 1 2)
1990-92 V8's DON'T NEED TAG - ALL SAME
1993 Must get ID tag - Should be electronic 4L60E - SEE 4L60E SECTION BELOW!! If your 1993 has a T.V. cable you have a 700 (4L60). This happens quite often.
1987-Up All Vans - Is shifter bracket bolted to ear on bellhousing? (driver's side)
1988 All 2WD - Is there a speedo cable or speedo sensor?
1988 ONLY (Except 2.5L & 2.8L)
Gas - Pull the pan & count the number of switches that SCREW (not bolt) into the valve body. 1 or 2 switches? (See Pictures)
Diesel - Get ID code AND pull the pan & count the number of switches that SCREW (not bolt) into the valve body. 1 or 2 switches?
1988-Up 2WD & 4X4 with 4.3L V6 Engine - Is the flywheel cover tin, plastic, or aluminum?
If aluminum, are there 4 or 6 bolts holding it on? (See Pictures)
Safari & Astro Vans - Does the tail housing have 2 or 3 bolts? (See Pictures)
1991-Up Make sure you have a 700 - may be 4L80E. (Removable tail, large round electrical connector on left side, 17 bolt oil pan comes to a point in the rear.)
TH700E (4L60E)
1993-Up should be the electronic 4L60E. If it is a 4L60E it will have a large round electrical connector on right (passenger) side and will NOT have a T.V. cable!! If your 1993 has a T.V. cable you have a 700 (4L60). This happens quite often. (See Pictures - 1 2 3)
1995-Up Electronic 4L60E - Is "PWM" stamped on top of pump? (See Picture)
WARNING: ALL 4L60E (700E) UNITS 1995-UP NEED A PRESSURE CHECK BEFORE TRANNSMISSION IS REMOVED. IT MAY NEED A MODULATOR INSTALLED DURING THE REBUILD!!
